TRYING TO KISS THE SUN (BRILLIANT 2ND ALBUM!)
STYLE/LINK:PINK FLOYD
The story so far: The band does an amazing track on a Pink Floyd tribute album, then releases their debut album which is heavily Pink Floyd influenced and gets a rapturous reception from all, then the play another exclusive track on a second Pink Floyd tribute album, then come up with brand new second studio album. The worlds of ‘Prog’ and ‘Rock’ catches its breath and wonders if it possible for such an album to have even the same high level of impact and enjoyment as the first, scarcely daring to hope that it could even be better. Well, having introduced some incredible new bands and albums to our clients over the years, we feel they know us well enough by now to trust us when we get enthusiastic about a band or an album, so take comfort in that knowledge now and believe us when we say… THIS ALBUM SHOULD BE AN ESSENTIAL PART OF ANY TRUE PROG/ROCK FAN’S COLLECTION! Now, I have to admit, I expected a good second album – but I never expected it to be THIS good! This is one absolutely incredible follow up to the amazing debut album ‘God Has Failed’. They have achieved the seemingly impossible by carving out their own identity in the prog market, while maintaining all the influences from before. Not only that, they have picked up a load of other classic influences along the way, the result of which is one of the finest prog/rock albums we have yet encountered! There are a few selected bands we have extolled the virtues of over the years, one such band being Porcupine Tree, because what we heard was pure, sheer, unadulterated class - the sort of thing that transcended the (merely) prog-rock genre and had an appeal that could potentially be as wide as the ocean and beyond. On this album, RPWL have also achieved this lofty pinnacle, and it is a coveted position occupied by very few others. The song-writing, the vocals, the delivery, the incredible production, the playing – it’s all absolutely spot on, as guitars, organs, synths, drums, bass, vocals, arrangements and playing all just go supernova! Each and every one of the 10 tracks on ‘Trying To Kiss The Sun’ will make you go weak at the knees – you’ll stand there in complete awe of what you are hearing when this CD rolls into your player. There are times when a track by track review for an album is not necessary – with something of this quality, you don’t need it – you just need to know that this runs for one glorious hour and it is a triumph in both the worlds of ‘Progressive’ music and ‘Rock’. This is an album you just have to own - One of those vital releases that will live in your heart and head for years to come. It really is THAT good – As I said, trust us, and you won’t be disappointed – we’ve never let you down before… Essential? As breathing, squire, and no mistake.
