SECRETS OF ASTROLOGY (+1 BONUS TRACK:ROMEO-JAP)

SONG-BASED (PROG)

Lana’s 5th full-length studio album and it’s another total piece of class! Featuring a distinguished list of guest musicians working with Erik Norlander in the her backing band, including Arjen Lucassen (Ayreon) and Tony Franklyn (The Firm, Blue Murder & Whitesnake). The opener alone is unbelievable – it has an intro that most bands would kill to produce, as a hail of synths, guitars, bass, drums and wordless female vocal choruses surge from the speakers. This album is all about the dynamics of tension, building, power, layering and arranging, and on that score, it’s faultless. It’s also about class song-writing, excellent lyrics and the best female voice in rock, prog, or practically anything else around these days. Every track is a gem whether your tastes are ‘Prog’, ‘Rock’, ‘AOR’ or similar, and it should be among your top 5 albums of year 2000 for sure. It’s a seventy-two minute album, and if the the first two tracks are anything to go by, it’s going to be an absolute blinder, so you’d better get strapped in because it’s clearly going to be the trip of a lifetime, and it doesn’t disappoint – Read on…

EUROPEAN TOUR 2001 SOUVENIR (NEW LIVE+STUDIO TRACKS)

MELODIC (PROG)

This is a really fine addition to the Lane / Norlander collection. Starts with a special medley of tracks from the last Lana Lane album ‘Secrets Of Astrology’ called ‘Astrology Suite’, followed by a track from Norlander’s excellent ‘Into The Sunset’ CD. Then you get Lana doing a live version of ‘Seasons End’ followed by a sparkling interpretation of the old King Crimson classic, ‘Court Of The Crimson King’. Up comes a sort of Think Tank label supergroup as Lane & Norlander team up with two members of Rocket Scientists plus Spock's Beard’s drummer to do two songs, ‘Fanfare For The Dragon Isle’ and ‘Fly’, both previously unreleased. More previously unreleased tracks follow as Rocket Scientists perform Pink Floyd’s ‘In The Flesh’ and their own ‘Oblivion Days’ track live in concert, and both are corking versions that perfectly complement the previous tracks perfectly. Don Schiff of Rocket Scientists is up next with a solo for the Chapman Stick, and that really shows what an amazing musician and composer this guy is. Finally, as a bonus track the CD ends with a seventeen minute, long atmospheric space jam that was previously only ever available on the Japanese version of Norlander’s ‘Into The Sunset’ album. So, overall, nearly all rare or previously unreleased compositions, not a less than superb one among them and 8 shining reasons for buying this CD.

INTO THE SUNSET (17 MINUTE BONUS TRACK-JAP)

KEYBOARDS DOMINATED (PROG)

An amazing prog-rock tour-de-force from Lana Lane’s husband keyboards player, and after the first hearing of this magnificent beast I thought “early Rick Wakeman – but gone metal”! Lana takes care of some vocals on the album, together with rock legend Glenn Hughes & Edward Reekers of Kayak, who feature on a couple of tracks, plus Arjen Lucassen from Ayreon adds some guitar parts. It’s a no-holds-barred, anything goes, contest as a massive blast of molten metallic prog is veritably unleashed from its tether and allowed to terrorise the neighbourhood as guitars, bass, keyboards and drums go positively nuclear force! This CD gives you Mellotrons, Hammond organ and synths played in a heavy metal setting, with choirs, guitar riffs searing solos, giant rhythms all set on a powerful and grandiose scale - A truly phenomenal album that adds another killer notch on the Lane-Norlander-Citron musical tree. This version features a bonus track at the end, in the form of a nineteen-minute atmospheric space jam.

EARTH BELOW & SKY ABOVE

KEYBOARDS DOMINATED (PROG)

Before they really turned up the heat on the ‘Oblivion Days’ album, their previous album was this excellent quality ‘live’ outing that showcased their concert sets in Europe and America. In progressive terms, it's actually better than the two studio albums that preceded it, with a lot more vibrancy and vitality to the compositions, and an amazingly improved production that made the music somehow spring into life. Allied to the excellent, flowing, driving and sometimes quite complex rhythms, melodies and riffs from the group, Norlander’s synthesizers, keyboards and McCrite’s electric guitars all come to the fore at regular intervals. The seventy-three minutes playing time, plus tracks that clock in at anything between five to eleven minutes, allows the musicians plenty of instrumental space to ensure variety in the music, and a well arranged set is enjoyed by all, including two tracks that feature the great voice of Lana Lane. This is a genuinely flowing set of solid, well-arranged prog-rock played in the style of musical and vocal territory that sums up the best that the 90's prog had to offer, and this is an extremely good example.

OBLIVION DAYS (BONUS TRACKS-JAP)

KEYBOARDS DOMINATED (PROG)

This is easily the best Rocket Scientists album to date. The band really is full of confidence, power and consistency on all 10 tracks, as you find prog-metal with the accent firmly on prog, as huge towers of keyboards and guitars burst into action and bloom on many occasions. Add to this, gutsy vocals, tight harmonies, solid rock rhythms, a massive production and quality song writing, and you have a barnburner of an album - One of the most powerful rock-prog albums around, but one that doesn't lose sight of its identity. ‘Oblivion’ is as solid and consistent a powerful prog album as you'll find - All the right ingredients are in there in abundance – 10 good length tracks (between four to ten minutes a piece) and instrumental work from all the musicians that just glows from start to finish. This version has a six-minute bonus track recorded ‘live’ in Japan.

(Please note: There is a slightly cheaper alternative version of this album available that you can order using stock number: 975290, but that version will not feature the bonus track!)
